Every Path Begins with a Story

Hello, I'm Maria

Maria Schaubel, CPCA®

Founder of Honeypine Haven Senior Services and a

Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA®).

At Honeypine Haven, I carry forward the values of compassion, support and love—values that continue to shape both my life and my work. Every person who comes here is met with empathy and respect.

For me, this is more than a profession — it’s a calling. I’m deeply passionate about guiding adults and their families through the paths of aging and life’s transitions.

That calling became even clearer during one of life’s most tender seasons. After my father’s passing, I walked alongside my mother and brothers through the many practical and emotional steps that follow a loss—organizing documents, navigating decisions, and ensuring everything was in place.

During that time, the funeral home shared something that stayed with me:

They wished everyone was this organized and prepared...

That moment shifted everything.

I saw how overwhelming it can feel when information is scattered—

and how meaningful it is when families are gently prepared ahead of time.

Through my work with seniors and their families, I’ve also had the quiet privilege of being present in life’s final moments. These experiences have deepened my comfort with end-of-life conversations and strengthened my belief that preparation and calm support can make a lasting difference.

This journey led to the creation of A Path Prepared™, a guided resource designed to help individuals and families organize important information, reflect on their wishes, and move forward with greater ease.

While every path is unique, the mission of Honeypine Haven remains the same: to offer calm guidance, thoughtful support, and meaningful conversation through life and legacy.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

Where It All Began

Honey — Enduring Love

“Honey” honours my Mom, a name lovingly given to her by my son when he was little.

For over 60 years, she stood beside my father with unwavering devotion. Throughout his journey with dementia, she cared for him each day with remarkable strength, helping to preserve his dignity and comfort until his final breath.

Watching her live out that kind of love further inspired my calling to support others. Her example has taught me that compassion and love can carry us through even the most difficult paths.

Pine — Strength That Endures

“Pine” was inspired by the Muskoka landscape and by my partner, whose woodworking business reflects his care and craftsmanship.

The pine tree stands steady through every season—rooted deeply, yet always reaching upward. It bends in storms but does not break. To me, it represents resilience, quiet strength, and the importance of staying grounded during times of change.

It reminds me that strength can be quiet, and that what we build with care can last.

Haven — A Guiding Light

“Haven” is in honour of my Dad.

He was a steady, calming presence—always putting family first and meeting life with quiet strength. In his final days, that strength remained. As I held his hand in July 2025, I witnessed both his deep endurance and his devoted love for his family. His faith never wavered, and that experience reinforced for me just how powerful compassionate presence can be during life’s most tender moments.

Years earlier, he worked as a lighthouse keeper—a role that now feels deeply symbolic. To me, he was always offering protection, reassurance, and light when the path ahead felt uncertain. The lighthouse remains a powerful symbol of the steadiness by which he lived.

Even now, that light remains—quietly guiding the heart of Honeypine Haven.

"Some people see things that are and ask, why? I dream things that never were and say, why not?"
