Honeypine Haven was never meant to be just a business name.
It reflects the people, experiences, and values that shaped my calling to support individuals and families through life’s transitions.
Each part of the name carries personal meaning, and together they represent the heart behind the work I do.
The first part of our name, “Honey,” honors my Mom. When my son was small, he gave her that nickname, and it has stayed with her ever since. Beyond being a sweet name, it reflects her character perfectly.
For 61 years of marriage, she stood by my father’s side with patience, grace, and unwavering devotion. During his long journey with Frontal Lobe Dementia, she cared for him daily with remarkable strength, ensuring his dignity and comfort until his final breath. Watching her live out that kind of love, further inspired my own calling to support others.
Her examples throughout life, has taught me that compassion, patience and love can endure any path that is put infront of us.
The second part of our name, Pine, was inspired by both my partner and the landscape that surrounds us here in Muskoka.
The pine tree stands steady through every season — rooted deeply, yet always reaching upward. It bends in storms but does not break. To me, it represents resilience, quiet strength, and the importance of staying grounded during times of change.
Pine also reflects the value of building something meaningful and lasting. Whether in my partner‘s woodworking business or in the work I do with families, what matters most is creating with care.
The final part of our name, Haven, is in honour of my Dad.
Throughout his life, he carried our family through challenges with quiet determination and steady faith. He always put his family first and met difficult moments with a calm strength that left a lasting impression on all of us.
Even in his final days, he continued to teach us. As I held his hand in July 2025, I witnessed both his deep endurance and his unwavering love for his family. His faith never wavered, and that experience reinforced for me just how powerful steady, compassionate presence can be in life’s most tender moments.
Many years earlier, my Dad had worked at a lighthouse — something that now feels especially meaningful. To me, he was always a guiding presence, offering protection, reassurance, and light when the path ahead felt uncertain. The lighthouse remains a powerful symbol of the steadiness he lived by.
Even after his passing, that guiding light is still as bright. It continues to shine over our family and over the heart of Honeypine Haven, quietly guiding the way we support the families who place their trust in us.

Hi, I’m Maria Schaubel — Founder of Honeypine Haven Senior Services and a
Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA®).
For me, this is more than a profession — it’s a calling! I am passionate about guiding seniors and their families through the paths of aging and life’s transitions.
At Honeypine Haven, I carry forward the values of compassion, resilience, and love — values that continue to shape my life and my profession. My promise is that each person who comes here will be met with empathy and respect.
Honeypine’s light to help others, became brighter during one of life’s most tender seasons.
After the passing of my father, I walked alongside my mother and brothers through the many practical and emotional steps that follow a loss. Through organizing important documents, navigating decisions, and ensuring everything was in place. During that time, the funeral home shared something that stayed with me:
They wished every family was this organized and prepared.
That moment became the lightbulb.
I saw firsthand how overwhelming end-of-life planning and estate organization can feel when information is scattered — and how powerful it is when families are gently prepared ahead of time.
Through years of working closely with seniors and their families, I have had the quiet privilege of being present at the bedside during life’s final moments. These experiences have deepened my comfort with end-of-life conversations and strengthened my belief that preparation and calm support can make an immeasurable difference.
This journey led to the creation of A Path Prepared™, a guided end-of-life planning resource designed to help individuals and families organize essential information, reflect on their wishes, and move forward with greater peace of mind.
While every family’s path is unique, the mission of Honeypine Haven remains steady: to offer calm guidance, thoughtful planning support, and meaningful conversation through life’s later seasons.
