The name "Honeypine Haven" is a reflection of my personal journey and the inspiration behind this service. My mother, affectionately called "Honey" by my son when he was young, has always been a guiding light in my life. Her nickname became the foundation of our mission, representing the wisdom and compassion that shaped the vision for Honeypine Haven. Through her experiences living in an Independent Living home and caring for my father, who has Frontal Lobe Dementia, she instilled in me the importance of empathy and care for others.
My father, a man of strong faith and deep love for his family, now resides in a Long-Term Care home. After many challenging years watching his condition decline, I witnessed firsthand the emotional and physical toll that Dementia takes on both the individual and their loved ones. To watch the burnout my mother experiences as a caregiver is profound, but her positive attitude and love for her husband of over 60 years is what continues to drive her. While our family is fortunate to have a strong support system, I deeply empathize with those who don’t have that same support. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the challenges families face and the critical need for a reliable support system, like Honeypine Haven.
The name "Pine" carries a personal significance within my partner’s family. Many years ago, his parents established Pinecroft Handcrafts, a business built on skill, dedication, and a passion for craftsmanship. As life progressed, my partner decided to move in with them, ensuring they could continue living comfortably in their home. During this time, he also pursued his own woodworking passion, launching Pinecroft Woodworking—a natural extension of the family’s tradition of artistry and meticulous craftsmanship.
The values that guide his woodworking—care, precision, and a commitment to excellence—are the same qualities he brings to supporting his parents. With both businesses rooted in the Pinecroft name, "Pine" felt like a fitting way to honor that legacy. It represents more than just a name; it symbolizes tradition and dedication.
With that same deep commitment to family, we all share a home, providing companionship to his parents and care as life changes. Our goal is to help them maintain their independence and fulfill their wish to remain in the home they love throughout their golden years. Through both our caregiving and our work, we carry forward the spirit of Pine—strong, enduring, and deeply rooted in love.
My father’s past as a lighthouse worker has always been a significant part of his identity and his role as a guiding figure to me. In his life, he saw many rough waters, however his unwavering strength and strong faith allowed him to continue to be a light to those around him.
This is why I chose the word "Haven"—a place of refuge and safety—as part of the name "Honeypine Haven." Just as a lighthouse provides a beacon of hope and direction to ships in the storm, a haven offers a safe harbour to those in need. It symbolizes a place where people can find comfort, security, and support in times of difficulty. My father’s experience working as a lighthouse keeper serves as a reminder of the importance of having a guiding light during times of uncertainty, which is exactly what we aim to provide at Honeypine Haven.
